Stars long exposure

On a clear night with lots of starts, if you are near the northern or southern hemisphere and take a long exposure photograph of the sky, you will see something like the image above. As earth rotates the light emitted by the "moving" stars leave a trace on the picture.

If you google "stars long exposure" you'll see some images like these:

They look fake I know, but most of these images are actually real. Pretty cool right?
